I GUESS I FOUND MY 'THING' - SELA

I feel as though everyone has their own ‘thing’. Something that they are good at. Something that they feel the most comfortable and natural doing. For some it may be sport, art or even math. It may be something like the ability to make someone laugh or comfort them. For me, my ‘thing’ is music. I can’t get enough of it. Every genre and every artist has a unique story to share through their musical creation. It’s like the highlight reel of a movie shortened into a 3 minute track. I spend at least 2 hours a day purely listening to music, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I guess you could say my obsession with music began in the 5th grade. I was in choir, and the teacher gave me a solo. Before then, I sung around the house but never thought voice was something I’d want to pursue. I guess after that I started taking singing seriously… well as seriously as you can take something in Year 5. I began singing more, and practicing vocal skill. I decided to look into learning instruments, so I decided to teach myself guitar (shoutout to the guitar tutors of YouTube). I also took up Piano lessons, but soon quit (#regrets). I also took 3 vocal lessons before I decided it wasn’t for me, but I’m glad I gave it a go.

Since the grade 5 days I'm now 16 years old and have taken up busking, playing gigs at different restaurants, doing open mics, playing at community events and singing at Church and youth. But in recent times I’ve been offered an awesome opportunity to join the new and up and coming band ‘Dusty Records’ as a vocalist and pianist, and I honestly cannot wait for this journey to take off.

Also for some fun I have an music account on Instagram, if you have some spare time please feel free to check it out - @selamoanamusic
